Great program, have been looking for an http vnc type client for the mac without using a vnc server/viewer, and this looks promising.
However, I wasnt able to figure out how to access my computer from outside my router.

The remote looks fantastic and works like a charm, you guys rock!

You’ll need to forward ports 5010 and 5012 on your router to the computer running WelcomeToYourMac.
Cheers!

Brilliant! Thanks a lot!
I really appreciate you working in camera and remote so quickly! (spotlight and terminal next, please? :D)
I really think this app this app is more useful than a straight-up vnc client - since on an ordinary vnc I’m stuck with my full screen squashed down unusably and having to pan everywhere to do the simplest of things - whereas this provides users with most basic functionality in an ipod-friendly format.
A couple problems:
- The application link showing the file structure of the server app itself has no icon (displays a questionmark).
-I haven’t been able to stream any media files - it might be the university network setup, so I’ll try it at home in a couple of hours. (Get a “Movie cannot be played” error in quicktime)
- What’s the difference between the “download” and “view” file links? I haven’t been able to open a single file with the “View” link, only download works. (Get a “Safari cannot download this file” error)
- could really use the ability to set custom finder shortcut icons

@Mike
glad you like it! Spotlight and Terminal are definitely next on my list. Now that my vacation is over, i’m swamped at work, so no promises on timeliness
re: your suggestions
1. totally, that’s actually pointing to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies so if you don’t have that directory then it’ll blank out and bring you somewhere random when you click it. Coming soon: the ability to choose your own shortcuts for the homepage instead of my hard-coded ones
2. not sure what’s wrong here, are you sure the media is properly encoded for you ipod? I’ll play around with this and try and get any bugs fixed for the next release too.
3. for the ipod/phone they mean pretty much the same thing. but when browsing from a normal browser, the “view” link will open the file in the browser if it can, and the “download” link will force the download popup even if its viewable inside a browser
4. you mean custom shortcuts or custom icons? i’m planning on building out some settings to let you choose what shortcuts are placed on your home screen. as for icons, it should pick up whatever icon that folder has in your computer. change the icon on your Mac and it should update on the WelcomeToYourMac too.
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll try and get the spotlight and terminal app out asap

Hi, I’m getting exactly the same error when selecting “View web page” on Mac.
Thanks for your work.
10 Paul // Nov 26, 2008 at 7:57 pm
It’s actually as above, but:
resources/www/common/library/exceptions/class.illegalArgumentException.php on line 3
Hope this helps

@paul, jeff
tracked it down: I’m depending on PHP 5 to be installed, but that’s for OS X 10.5+ only. Anyone running 10.4 or less will see that error.
if you don’t plan on upgrading to 10.5 anytime soon, http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/php/ looks promising for installing PHP 5 on a 10.4 machine.
Cheers

can you still use your own .tapp files?
13 adam // Nov 29, 2008 at 3:10 am
@dan
not yet, but it’s it’s on the roadmap for the 1.0 version. I’m going to be updating the API quite a bit to give tapp developers a lot more power as well.
any specific tapp / feature you have in mind?
