    Any intention of adding media streaming capabilities to this program? I know telekinesis featured this, but it was incredibly insecure.

  • 3 adam // Jul 15, 2008 at 12:05 am

    @mrpiddly

    absolutely. the iPhone still can’t handle https streaming, even w/ the 2.0 update, so media streaming to your iphone still has to be over http.

    but instead of putting the full path to the file in the URL for anyone to modify (and potentially ready any file on your system - yikes!), random URLs will be generated on the fly for files and expire after streaming is done.

    And for the non-iPhone people out there, there will still be the option to turn off http altogether.

    Will all features of telelkenesis come?
    I’m really missing support to control the latest Frontrow on the mac without lots of scripts. My mac is out of site of the living room and I stream all music and movies to my TV with front row. Please can this work, I’ve recently lost my old faithful wireless keyboard and would looove my iphone remote?
    A great job you guys are doing reviving this! Thanks!

    @rudi

    this first release won’t have front row support, but i do plan on supporting all the old tapps from telekinesis. So, short term: no, but long term: yes.

    :)

    is there any tutorial on setting this up??

  • 7 adam // Aug 16, 2008 at 2:19 pm

    @tommy,

    just download the app, unzip, and drag it to your applications folder, and you should be good to go. If you’re beind a router/firewall, you’ll need to forward ports 5010 and 5012 to the computer running the app.

    i can’t figure out how to “access my files anywhere”. It only works with the LAN address, the 10.10.10.103 thing. If i type in my static IP from whatismyip.com, a popup says “To view this page, you need to log in to area “level_15 or view_access” on (my ip address here)”

    How do i make it so 10.10.10.103:5010 is the same as my IP address with the :5010 port or something? Thanks

  • 11 adam // Dec 8, 2008 at 1:00 am

    @ElectricMac5

    Great question - I just created a tutorial to help configure access to WTYM from the internet. The answer lies in forwarding the port 5010, so that you can use your external ip address to view WTYM instead of your internal ip address.

    check it out at:

    The app is great! Congratulations
    Is there a chance that it will run on OsX Server? I have a Mini server, and i couldn’t get it work with it.

  • 13 adam // Dec 10, 2008 at 6:41 pm

    @Peter,

    WTYM requires PHP 5, which is only in OS X 10.5. I’m guessing you’re running OS X Server 10.4?

  • 14 Peter // Dec 11, 2008 at 1:35 am

    I tried on 10.5.5 Server, and just for test I tried on a virtual 10.5.5 Server too. I thought it is with firewall or something, but none of them works with localhost:5010 .

  • 15 mark // Jan 2, 2009 at 11:36 pm

    I can’t get the Front Row remote to work. I hit menu and then works but the open and down doesn’t work or left and right. All I can do is start Front Row and end Front Row. I’m running OS X 10.5.6 a brand new install and the latest iPhone firmware. Does this work for anyone? I tried this 6 months ago with the same results. I would love streaming too. I’m not at all worried about security. Can I implement now just like Telekinesis?

    thanks,
    Mark

    @mark

    thanks for the heads up on the front row problem - I hadn’t heard that yet.

    as for media streaming, I’m just about ready to release the next version which will have media streaming working. now that the holidays are over I can start dedicating some more consistent time to this. :)
